I shall not return

I shall not return

When the day comes
of my departure
from days and nights
some may sigh
some cry
but almost all shall never know
and I shall not return

I shall renounce returning
if I find that the dead
tend to return
or that some great
arranger has arranged
for me to return
I shall remain dead
and add my vanishing weight
to the weight of death

I shall be gone
from those who would
behold in wonder
as much as from those
who could not tell
if it was me
on new streets or old
or by my gait
or words
